This retreat is a day of knitting, pure and simple.
The Port Orchard Knitters’ Retreat carries on! We hope you’ll join us for another wonderful day of knitting and community.
Basically, the retreat will run about the same as 2024, with a few changes. Here are the main points:
- Attendance is limited to 85, an increase from last year.
- Pre-registration is REQUIRED. The fee remains $15.
- Seating is the same as last year: Please sit on the left side of all tables, leaving the entire right side available for the Stash Sale.
POKR is held at the Eagles Hall, 4001 Jackson Ave SE, Port Orchard, from 9am to 4pm.
We use the room on the lower floor, which has an ADA accessible entrance and restrooms.
We also use the lower parking lot—events scheduled for the upper level have the use of the upper parking lot.
Clear out your old stash and add some new! You may sell yarn, fiber, tools, (needles, etc) and patterns
Please, no finished products or commercial sales. Sellers—you are responsible for keeping track of your Stash Sale items
Buyers—bring cash; don’t count on sellers being able to use Venmo or other digital systems.
- Manage your stash items directly at your table by displaying them on the chair-free right side.
- You will be able to keep an eye on your property, and buyers won’t have to wander the halls trying to find you (as in years past).
- Space is limited. You may store your extra stash at your feet under the table, or replenish your supply from your car. Plan accordingly!
RAFFLE—The Terri Major Memorial Raffle continues with a beautiful lace shawl knit by our own Ruth Ann Hanks. Please bring some cash to support the raffle. Tickets are $2 each or $5 for three. The proceeds benefit Heifer International (heifer.org). Last year POKR donated enough money from this raffle to provide two sheep, two hives of bees, and a flock of chickens for Heifer International’s program. Way to go!
DOOR PRIZES—A variety of goodies from generous local yarn shops and individuals will be on display, and awarded as door prizes throughout the day.
SHOW-N-TELL—This fun segment requires YOUR participation. Bring a couple of items to show and describe. First-timer with a potholder? Yes, we want to see it! Not finished and still on the needles? Doesn’t matter, we want to see it! Lace and Fair Isle knitter? You are inspiring; we want to see it! Be prepared to share the yarn and pattern details while limiting your remarks to a minute or thereabouts so everyone will have a chance to participate.
LUNCH—Please bring a brown-bag lunch. Coffee, tea, and hot water will be available at no charge. Although POKR provides disposable cups we encourage you to bring your own mug. A microwave oven is also available in the kitchen. There is no set lunch break; eat when you are ready.
SNACK TABLE—Members of POKR’s supporting group (the Port Orchard Knitters) provide tasty and sometimes even healthy treats at the kitchen window. Nibble away with a cup of coffee or tea.
Attendance is limited to 85 participants. Pre-registration is required.
Registration will open in mid-January and remain open until March 8, or until 85 knitters have signed up, whichever comes first.
When POKR has reached 85 participants, we will maintain a waiting list.
The fee is $15 per person. This covers such costs as facility rental, supplies, insurance, and postage. The POKR organizers and helpers are all unpaid volunteers.

The first POKR was held in 2007. The event came about when Ann had the idea to copy a large retreat that we had been attending for several years - but make it smaller and more accessible to Kitsap County knitters, particularly those in our own informal knitting group. Diana kept encouraging Ann to do it, and Ruth Ann said, "I'll help!"
When it finally took place in March 2007, we were thrilled when about forty local knitters showed up.
That first POKR (and several after that) was held at the small historic Waterman Club on Hillcrest Drive. When we outgrew that facility, we moved for one year to a hall in downtown Port Orchard, and then to the First Lutheran Community Church on Mitchell Road where we stayed for several years. We finally outgrew that too. For the future POKR will be held at the Eagles Hall.
